How to Manage Stress and Anxiety - Stress Management Techniques
Let's understand what is stress and how it impacts our daily life, and what are the best management techniques to handle it and living very stress free and a happy life.
It's
the fact that we all experience stress in our lives. Stresses can be due to
money issues, relationship-interpersonal conflicts, excessive
work load, or worried too much for any other tasks that impacts our daily living activities.
If a thought comes in your mind that
you are the only person who is really stressed out and anxious, then take a look around you
and realize that you are not alone.
As per survey, stress and anxiety
disorders are the very common illnesses in the United States affecting 40 million
adults in the United States, and 18.1% population every year.
Everyone has one or the other causes
for stress. The fact is that stress
happens. It is not in your control what
happens, but you can control how you respond.
Before we discuss how to overcome stress and anxiety, keep in your mind that things like drugs, alcohol,
other risky behaviors are not the answers for stress relief.
Some
people become angry, lose control, and get frustrated when they are really
stressed up. Some may also even yell on others, punch the walls, slam the
doors, get involved into risky behaviors in order to relieve tension, but this
can in turn worsens the situation.
People
often experience a variety of symptoms that can indicate stress arousals, which include:
- Fast, hard, irregular heartbeat
- Difficulty breathing
- Chest pain or chest tightness
- Dizziness/lightheadedness
- Feeling nauseous
- Restlessness
- Sweats
- Heated or cold palms
- Dry mouth
- Headaches
- Shoulders, neck, and back pains
- Gastrointestinal issues
- Loss of appetite due to worries
People always think that stress as
negative, but in fact this fight-or-flight response is very beneficial in
life-saving situations.
It is very important to note that if
you continued to be stressful or worried inside, the stress energy increases,
and as it is not discharged through other emergency actions (in terms of fight
or flight response), this can contribute to distress on body organs or open a
door for illnesses, which can also lead to severe mental disorders.
Now, as
you understood the pros and cons of stressors in life, it is time to learn the relaxation techniques to manage the stress for
